W/S Golf Management, LLC began managing Whaling City Golf Course in April 2018 and welcomes you.
Owners, Bruce and Sue Carlson, have been in the golf business for over 40 years and currently, in addition to Whaling City also manage Marion Golf Course and Meadowbrook Driving Range. Bruce has proven his ability in improving and maintaining golf courses in exceptional shape while superintendent at a variety of nearby courses.
People ask use why we took on this venture; the simple answer is we saw an opportunity. Golf has undergone tremendous changes over the past twenty years; and although there is a general decline in the number of people taking up the sport ; we saw an opportunity to take a diamond in the rough and make it shine again. It will take time to truly make the course and clubhouse what we believe it can be, but have already made many improvements that members and guests have both noticed and appreciated. The City of New Bedford has a true gem in this property and golf course; and we want to make it the best it can be.
We are committed to this and to giving back to the community; Whaling City Golf Course hosts the New Bedford High School and Vocational School Golf Teams and are sponsoring a weekly Junior Clinic with the help of volunteer golfers and professionals who love the game.
We are assisted in our endeavor by Greg Dennehy and Howie Barrow, PGA professionals with many years of experience, known throughout the golf industry.
We have assembled a great grounds crew led by Bruce, and Brian Ramos who has been at the Whale for nineteen years and understands the day to day challenges the course presents and how to best improve the course conditions.
Another long term employee of Whaling City Golf Course and experienced in bartending, Gina Soares manages the fully stocked bar. Stop by and have the cocktail of your choice.
Our restaurant is managed by Sonya Bradford, who has experience in the food industry that includes catering a variety of events. The restaurant recently opened and has an everchanging menu to satisfy every taste.
Our goal is to provide an exceptional golf experience at a reasonable rate. Stop by and see the changes we've made.
